James M. Vanderhider EVP & CFO President & CEO, EnerVest Institutional GP

vanderhiderJim serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of EnerVest, Ltd., and has been with EnerVest since March 1996. He also is President & Chief Executive Officer of EnerVest Institutional G.P., which serves as co-general partner of Fund XIII, Fund XIV and future EnerVest funds. He is responsible for EnerVest's private equity business and for the financial oversight, including risk management, of the institutional investments and for EnerVest, Ltd. He also serves as Chairman of the company's investment committee for its 401k and deferred benefit plans.

Prior to joining EnerVest, Jim was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Torch Energy and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Nuevo Energy, a company that he helped take public with John Walker in 1990. Prior to that, Jim was responsible for the corporate internal audit activities of The Coastal Corporation, now a subsidiary of EP Energy. In that capacity he oversaw the corporate audit activities of Coastal's various business segments including pipeline, refining and marketing, exploration and production, coal and chemical and trucking. Prior to that, he was Chief Financial Officer of Walker Energy Partners, a master limited partnership which he helped form with John Walker in 1985. Jim began his career with Touche Ross, formerly known as Deloitte and Touche, in the audit department focusing on the energy industry. 

Jim received a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Texas A&M University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a native Houstonian and is actively involved with several industry, investment and social organizations. He serves as President for the Foundation of Goodwill Industries of Houston. Jim is a member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the New Mexico Oil & Gas Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and is an Advisor on a Committee to Pennybacker Capital Management, the real estate private equity sponsor of Pennybacker IV, LP. Jim and his wife Lynne stay very busy with four children who range in age from 19 to 30. In addition, they love traveling and are involved with their church's activities. Jim is an experienced marathon runner who has completed 16 marathons and has qualified twice for the Boston Marathon.
